"At Easter Ukrainians and Russians fill a basket with the foods that they had abstained from during Lent, such as meats (ham, sausage), eggs, and dairy products (cheese, butter). The exact foods included vary from region to region. West Ukrainians included a rich bread called a paskha, usually decorated with a cross. In our family we traditionally molded the butter into the shape of a lamb and dyed the eggs using onion skins. We also made an "egg cheese" out of milk, eggs, and some sugar and vanilla, which would be cooked and then hung in cheescloth until it formed a solid ball with a taste like egg custard. We then take the basket to church to be blessed by the priest. After the midnight service we then dig in, celebrating the Feast of the Resurrection."
